And so
the
story begins ... |

The
First Date - Rusty and I decided to meet at a placed called Colony
South. As I sat in the parking lot I wondered what I was doing. I was so excited but
yet so afraid of what I might see. To my great surprise this gorgeous looking man
walked towards my car and introduced himself as Rusty. All I could say to myself was
Thank you, God.
I insisted on driving and decided we should go to Baltimore for the day. We
were on our way! The car ride was awkward. It felt weird that I was going out
with a complete stranger but at the same time I felt like I already knew him and comforted
by this. We walked around the inner harbor, went to the Maryland Science Center and
saw Everest and then went to Planet Hollywood for dinner.
I remember one particular moment on the date. We were sitting on a bench
looking at all the sailboats and Rusty looked at me and said You are coming to Cuba
next month for the Marine Corps Ball. I looked at him in amazement and said
no Im not.
Rusty and I were having such a great time that I almost forgot that he was leaving
the next day to return to Cuba. It started the pour outside so we talked for
hours in the car and didnt want to leave each other. Finally around 2 am in
the thunder and lightning he was on his way to Norfolk, VA to catch his flight.
I really didnt think I
would hear from him again. But the next day my mom called me at work and said a guy
named Rusty called you and left his number. I called back but my mother left out a
number and there was no way to get a hold of him... I was freaking out. But that
evening I got on line and he instant message me and I was able to tell him why I didn't
call him back.
He told me that he missed his flight and that he had driven back to Virginia to see
me.

We spent rest of a very
happy week getting to know each other ... and looking forward to the next time we would be
together. (See Cuba Trip #1)
